Constructing a Man-Cave from scratch (Retro Games Room build) – Part 2

How we’re progressing…

Since the last post on this topic (for those who missed Part 1 click here) we have been all systems go on the man-cave (or should that be all systems slow?) I knew it would take some time and when you consider I have only been doing this one day a week (and not every week) having had no prior experience of doing a loft conversion, I don’t think 8 months is too bad.

Anyway, here we are and we have now got the stud partition wall built, all the previously unfloored areas are now floored, electrics in and working (lights and power), Cat.6 network cabling installed, walls plaster boarded, skimmed and painted.

 Next jobs to do

  • Fit door between storage area and office
  • Purchase furniture
  • Fit skirting board and architrave
  • Fit underlay and carpet
  • Furnish

My plans

Must haves:

  • Large wall mounted flat-screen TV (40″+)
  • Large CRT TV
  • 5.1 Surround Stereo
  • Unit below and around TVs to house at least 18 working consoles* with room for respective arcade sticks where possible and hidden wiring
  • Enclosed space to house the rest of my collection
  • Storage for part of my software collection (not all – that would take a room much, much bigger than this!)
  • Desk for computers/office space
  • Cat. 5/6 Networking
  • Comfy armchair/la-z-boy/giant beanbag i-eX Gaming chair (thanks @Knightlore1978)
  • Heating for those cold winter nights (and the summer ones)
